AT SOHO HOME, DUKE OF YORK SQUARE, LONDON, SW3 4LY
In celebration of the 50th Anniversary year of Picasso's death, David Simon Contemporary presents an exhibition of original works on paper by Pablo Picasso alongside paintings and ceramics by his last surviving muse, Lydia Corbett, known as "The Girl with the Ponytail", with ceramics by her daughter, Alice Corbett, at Soho Home, Chelsea.
Lydia Corbett, née Sylvette David, was the subject of more than seventy paintings and sculptures by Picasso, after meeting in 1954. Working directly onto canvas and wooden panels, she creates bold and powerful compositions in oils, often with charcoal. In this newest body of work, she recalls memories of her life as a young woman. The exhibition also includes the collaborative achievements with her daughter, Alice Corbett, working together in ceramics. Lydia transfers images of memories and her imagination in a direct way by working with her hands, using the sense of touch and feel as well as vision.
Lydia Corbett has held some twenty solo exhibitions in London as well as around the world and her paintings are in the permanent collections of Musée National Picasso, Paris and the Vatican Collection. Represented by David Simon Contemporary since 2016.
Complimenting this body of work is a collection of works on paper by Pablo Picasso, from the 1950s and 1960s, including drawings, scarce editions of linocuts and etchings. These are all original works and signed by Picasso. David Simon Contemporary is an established dealer of works on paper by 20th Century School of Paris and Modern British artists.
